We offer a wide range of educational consulting services to help you navigate the world of special education.

Records Review & Action Plan

  • Thorough Document Review: Systematically examines all educational documents, including current and past IEPs/504s, school reports, outside evaluations, and all relevant correspondence (emails/letters) to understand the child's complete educational history and identify compliance issues.
  • Psychoeducational Report Interpretation and Rights Overview: Helps parents understand complex psychoeducational testing results (scores, percentiles) and their implications for the child's learning. Provides a clear explanation of parental rights and procedural safeguards under federal special education laws (IDEA/Section 504).
  • IEP/504 Analysis and Action Plan: Conducts a focused analysis to identify specific problems or deficiencies in the existing IEP or 504 Plan. Includes a dedicated one-hour consultation to discuss findings and priorities, followed by a comprehensive written plan of action detailing the specific steps and requests the family should take next.
  • Goal and Objective Quality Assurance: Utilizes expertise to ensure all proposed IEP goals and objectives are appropriate, functional, and technically sound. Verifies that goals are well-written, measurable, and include clear, specific criteria for desired outcomes and progress monitoring.

IEP Meeting Attendance (Virtual)

Representation at Meetings 

  • Act as an advocate on behalf of parents and students during IEP/504 meetings.
    • Ensures the school follows all procedures required by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) or Section 504.
    • Helps parents understand complex educational and legal jargon used by the school team.
    • Presents parent and student concerns, data, and requests in a clear, professional manner.

Communication and Concern Resolution

  • Ensure that parents' concerns are addressed and understood.
    • Listens actively to the family's input, observations, and goals for the student.
    • Translates general parent concerns (e.g., "my child is struggling to read") into specific, actionable educational needs (e.g., "needs explicit, systematic phonics instruction").
    • Confirms that the school team formally acknowledges and responds to the family's requests.

Team Collaboration and Relationships

  • Foster positive relationships with teachers and school staff.
    • Promotes a collaborative, solution-oriented approach instead of an adversarial one.
    • Models professional and respectful communication to build trust between the family and the school team.
    • Helps maintain a productive working environment focused on the student's best interest.

Goal Development and Quality

  • Reviews annual goals to ensure they  are Specific in detailing the exact skill to be mastered.
  • Confirms goals are Measurable using clear metrics (e.g., "with 80% accuracy" or "on 4 out of 5 trials").
  • Ensures goals are Action-oriented and Realistic for the student to achieve in one year.
  • Verifies that goals are Time-Specific with a clear expected completion date.

Scope of Direct Service

  • Includes attendance and representation in IEP, 504, Eligibility or other school meetings.
    • Covers preparation time before each meeting (reviewing records and drafting proposals).
    • Covers direct attendance and representation during the meeting.
    • Covers follow-up after the meeting (reviewing the draft plan and providing feedback).
    • "Other school meetings" can include eligibility, Manifestation Determination Reviews (MDR), or placement meetings, based on the student's needs.

Classroom Observation and Consultation (Local to Charlotte Area Only)

  • Observe your child in the classroom(s) or situation(s) of concern for up to one hour
  • Conduct observations discreetly, without your child's awareness, and without interrupting the classroom
  • Provide an impartial perspective on classroom dynamics and potential concerns
  • As appropriate, collaborate with school staff and parents to develop strategies that address concerns
